Fun Activities for Kids on A Rainy Day

Fun Activities For Kids on A Rainy Day

In this week’s video we talk about how on the West Coast, it often rains. Because of this it can be tough to entertain kids in the winter with activities that don’t involve muddy boots.

Card games tend to get old after a little while, and your favourite books need a break. What are some fun activities that will inspire some laughs and lasting conversation?

Watch the video, where we share our favourite fun activities for kids on a rainy day, indoors.

Activity #1: Red Solo Cup Stacking Game

Decide on 2 + teams (or individual players against one another), and divvy up red solo cups amongst your teams so that there are an even amount for each. This is both a pyramid building, and team building activity! On the count of ‘ready, set, go’, teams are to compete against each other for who can build a Red Solo Cup pyramid the fastest. Careful, the toughest part is building the pyramid before the cups fall over! In our video, we chose to pick a losing activity. Which is each participants’ least favourite veggie? At the end of the game, the losing team has to face their fears and devour their dreaded veggie pick!

Activity #2: Try Not To Laugh Game

Acting as moderator, gather a list of jokes on paper to read aloud

Ask participants to hold a gulp of water each in their mouths

Relay jokes as participants hold water in their mouths without spilling

The first participant to spit out their water in a laugh loses!

Activity #3: Speak Out Game

A crowd favourite, you may have seen this game played by celebrities on the TV show Ellen! Adorn yourselves with your finest bibs (there may be a bit of drooling) ; the team with the most cards at the end wins this game. The point of this game is to communicate messages to players from the deck of cards, within the time limit…all the while wearing a mouthpiece. Warning, you may get flashbacks to your last dentist visit! You can snag a copy of the Speak Out Game here.

Activity #4: Slime Time

Do you remember creating slime in your laundry room as a kid? Simple, cheap, and just a little messy. We’ve decided to include the good old-fashioned recipe here for a little slime time during your next rainy day.

  1. 2/3 Cup White Elmer’s Glue.
  2. 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda.
  3. 1/4 Cup Water.
  4. 2-3 Cups Shaving Cream.
  5. 1.5 tablespoons Contact Lens Solution.
  6. Liquid Food Coloring.

Activity #5: Vegging out with some snacks + one of your favourite movies!

Nestle into the couch with some blankets and your favorite snacks, and choose a good movie to share for the afternoon while the rain pours down outside! An oldie but goodie at the end of a long day.
